Lanigan, Ryan, Malcolm & Doyle has been recognized for two consecutive years as one of the "Best Accounting Firms to Work For" by Accounting Today magazine. Out of nearly 200 applicants, LRMD ranked in the top 60 accounting firms, and in the top 10 in the midsized firm category for both years.
Anyone working in public accounting will find that they are in a challenging but rewarding career. LRMD stresses quality and hard work in order to meet the high demands of this industry. However, it is our belief that the best work is performed in a relaxed atmosphere.
One unique aspect of our firm is that we do not have separate audit and tax departments. This not only creates well-rounded employees, but it also allows new staff to gain a wide variety of real-world experience. This arrangement avoids the problem of a new employee being pigeon-holed into one particular area before being able to explore their options. As an employee gains experience, our supervisors work hard to develop each employee’s natural strengths and interests.
Our firm focuses on teamwork. A primary objective of each person’s job description is to help other members of the firm when the need arises. New staff members will not find themselves just thrown into a job with little idea of where to begin. Supervisors always strive to take the necessary time to teach others. The firm holds an “open door” policy meaning all supervisors do their best to make themselves available to answer any questions.
Our diverse client base allows staff members to experience a wide variety of industries and also provides opportunities for specialization. Beginning with their first client engagement, staff members will find that they are involved in many phases of each job. Staff will quickly see the “whole picture” of a job and will participate in audit, accounting and tax portions of engagements, as well as consulting work for our clients. New staff members will also find that they are often working directly with partners during their first year.
Our firm believes in training and education to develop better professionals. We accomplish this by providing in-house courses for our staff, third-party training, and an orientation for new employees.
Our staff attend annual training conferences through our network of accounting firms, AGN. These conferences are three days long and usually take place in Chicago or Colorado Springs. Advanced level conferences take place all around the world. The classes offer updates on changes in the accounting industry and workshops on other skills needed in the workplace, such as time-management and supervision skills.
Each new staff member will also be assigned another member of the firm to serve as their mentor. The mentor/mentee program provides the new staff with learning opportunities as well as offers support and advice. |
